As your Mayor I will strive every day to bring integrity, focus, accountability and fiscal responsibility to the Office of the Mayor of the Town of Pittsboro.
My wife Jennifer and I moved to Pittsboro in June of 2008, shortly after I accepted the position of Town Manager of the Town of Pittsboro. Upon my retirement from public service in September of 2012, we considered moving to Raleigh to be closer to Jennifer’s work with Paragon Commercial Bank; however, we so enjoy the small town flavor of Pittsboro that we agreed to make Pittsboro our home town.
I have dedicated 42 years of my life to public service, starting with a 20-year career as a Combat Engineer Officer in the United States Marine Corps and followed by 22 years of local government service in the Town of Chapel Hill and the Town of Pittsboro. My educational background, including a BA degree in Government and International Relations from Carleton College and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from North Carolina State University, coupled with my five years of experience as your Town Manager, make me uniquely qualified for the office of Mayor of the Town of Pittsboro. I look forward to the opportunity to give back to the community by volunteering my time to continue and expand upon my record of public service.
As for campaign promises, I will not be making any. In the language of the field of Political Science, the Town’s Council-Manager form of government is classified as a Weak Mayor form of government which is very different from the Strong Mayor form of government found in many large American cities and town. I strongly believe that a mayor should not make promises that he or she cannot deliver. If you want to know how I stand on the important issues facing the Town, please look under the “KEY ISSUES” tab above.
I will strive to be a voice for fiscally responsible policies, working together with your elected Commissioners to ensure that the Town’s limited resources are applied to improving the quality of life of our citizens and managing growth in a manner that is respectful of the small town flavor for which the Town of Pittsboro has come to be known. I will be ever mindful of the fact that the best interests of the Town will frequently not be the same as the best interests of various special interest groups.
I ask for your vote in the upcoming elections.
